Water tower in Plaça Catalunya, El Prat de Llobregat
Torre d'aigües de la Plaça Catalunya, El Prat de Llobregat
This water tank, the work of the engineer José Luís García Guàrdia, was built in 1966 to ensure the supply of drinking water in the city, measures 38m and is located in Plaza Catalunya.
When the square was modernized and whose works lasted almost a decade (2006-2015), the water tank was restored and a new building for the library and a metro station a few meters away were built next to it, being one of the emblematic monuments from the city. At night it has lighting, which can change if the day has an important event such as the Diada de Catalunya or the International Women's Day.

On January 15 I went to Barcelona to participate in a feminist mass meeting to support Andalusian women that took place in Sant Jaume square. The photos of the rally were published on Instagram and I didn't publish them on the blog. There would be no point in doing it at this point, either.

El 15 de enero fui a Barcelona para participar en una concentración feminista para apoyar a las mujeres andaluzas que se hizo en la plaza de Sant Jaume. Las fotos de la concentración las publiqué en Instagram y no llegué a publicarlas en el blog. Tampoco tendría sentido hacerlo a estas alturas.
Al volver a casa para coger el metro, pasé al lado de esta calle y me apeteció hacer una foto.

March 1st is the National Peanut Butter Day in the USA. I am surprised that there is a day of almost everything.
In Spain peanut butter isn't very popular, children and adults prefer chocolate and hazelnut cream. When I was a child I tasted peanut butter and I didn't like it, it wasn't until last year that I tasted it again and found it to be good. Although you have to know how to search, I once bought a bottle of a cream that was very oily and the taste wasn't good.

El 1 de marzo es el día nacional de la crema de cacahuete en Estados Unidos. Me sorprende que haya día de casi todo.
En España la crema de cacahuete no es muy popular, los niños y adultos prefieren la crema de chocolate y avellanas. This is the top of the tower in the first photo of this post next to part of the Antonio Martín library building.
The day I took this photo, April 27, I joined a historical tour of the city in which a historian explained the history of several important buildings in the city. Many have been demolished, others have been poorly restored, and others are still standing, but some are very poorly preserved. It's a shame.

El día que hice esta foto, 27 de abril, me uní a un recorrido histórico por la ciudad en la que un historiador nos fue explicando la historia de varios edificios importantes de la ciudad. Muchos han sido derribados, otros han sido mal restaurados y otros siguen en pie, pero algunos muy mal conservados. Es una pena.

Durante el recorrido pasamos por la parte trasera de esta parroquia. Un día tengo que ir y hacerle una foto, tiene un diseño bastante original.
Hace unos días que publiqué una entrada sobre los aviones que fotografié en mayo de 2019 y comentaba que también hice fotos del paisaje. Vivo en una ciudad en la que tenemos la suerte de poder disfrutar de la naturaleza a dos pasos de casa, muchas veces me llevo la cámara para fotografiar estos paisajes, como el día en el que hice las siguientes fotografías.

El Prat de Llobregat
The Llobregat river was dirty and neglected for many years. Finally they decided to fix this whole area so that people could walk and play sports and after several years of works, in December 2013 Parc del riu (River Park) and dirt roads for pedestrians and cyclists were inaugurated from which you can go to the beach, that is about 5km away from the city, safely and surrounded by nature, or to the other direction to the city of Sant Boi de Llobregat.
It's not uncommon to find birds of different species along the way as the river is part of the Llobregat Delta and its natural spaces, rich in fauna and flora.

Durante muchos años el río Llobregat estuvo sucio y descuidado. Finalmente decidieron arreglar toda esa zona para que las personas pudiesen pasear y hacer deporte y después de varios años de obras, en diciembre de 2013 se inauguró el Parc del riu (Parque del río) y los caminos de tierra para peatones y ciclistas desde los cuales puedes ir hasta la playa, que está a unos 5km de distancia desde la ciudad, de forma segura y rodeado de naturaleza, o bien hacia la otra dirección a la ciudad de Sant Boi de Llobregat.
Tampoco es raro encontrarse por el camino aves de distintas especies ya que el río forma parte del Delta del Llobregat y sus espacios naturales, ricos en fauna y flora.

This is the last bridge on the Llobregat river before emptying into the Mediterranean. It's of new construction, it was inaugurated in April 2015 and in February 2016 it was baptized with the name of the South African politician Nelson Mandela.

Éste es el último puente que hay en el río Llobregat antes de desembocar en el Mediterráneo. Es de construcción nueva, se inauguró en abril de 2015 y en febrero de 2016 se bautizó con el nombre del político Sudafricano Nelson Mandela.
En este puente se han rodado muchos anuncios publicitarios, la mayoría de automóviles.

Leaving the bridge behind, there's a narrow path for pedestrians, although there are cyclists who circulate on this path despite having to use the path next to it. At the end of the path we find one of the many canals and a small wooden bridge that joins the main path that leads to the "Espais Naturals del Llobregat" (Natural areas of the Delta del Llobregat).
Dejando el puente atrás, hay un camino estrecho para peatones, aunque hay ciclistas que circulan por este camino a pesar de que tienen que usar el camino que hay al lado. Al final del caminito encontramos uno de los muchos canales y un pequeño puente de madera que une al camino principal que lleva a los "Espais Naturals del Llobregat" (Espacios naturales del Delta del Llobregat).

On the main road we can find this farmhouse in the territory known as "Parc agrari" (Agrarian Park). I translate the Catalan text for you:
"The path we are following was opened in 2004 in parallel with the new canal of the Llobregat river, cutting the structure of the agricultural territory that previously existed.
Cal Jaume del Bitxot, the farmhouse that we see in front, was owned by the industrialist and politician Ferran Puig during the 19th century. The house has a ground floor, a floor and a semi-detached warehouse.
Very close to where we are, there was another house, Cal Nyepa, which was demolished by works on the river. It dated from 1763 and in the 19th century it was part of the farms that Ferran Puig bought ".
Unfortunately, many historic farmhouses have been demolished. A pity that they did not want to keep them.

End of this part of the road, until Camí Reial de València (Royal path of Valencia). If you keep going you get to the part of the beach reserved for animals and therefore, it's closed to people. One day I go to the end of the road, I will take photos.
At this point I take a lot of photos of planes since this is where they make the final aproach before landing at the airport. Many of the photos that I published in the entry of this link are taken from this place.

Canal de la Dreta del Llobregat
This canal is a few meters away from the simple spot for watching planes land. Here it's easy to see different birds and red-eared slider turtles, which are an invasive species. At that time I saw no birds in sight.

Este canal está a pocos metros de distancia del mirador de l'Aeropuert del Prat (mirador del aeropuerto). Aquí es fácil ver distintas aves y tortugas de Florida, que son una especie invasora. En ese momento no vi ninguna ave a la vista.

I'm very behind with reading the blogs I follow, so am a bit late in commenting but you do live in a lovely area. I have only been to Barcelona once and saw very little of it because I was at a doll convention one day and then the next was raining really heavily all day and the final day was sunny but I had to fit so much in that I saw very little of it!!

I'm lucky to live in such as lovely area, we have nature very close of our home. I'm sorry you could't enjoy your day in Barcelona because of the rain, hope the next time you come the weather is nicer.
That water tower is now light up in different colours, I'll post a pic of it as soon as possible.
