From the 6th to the 9th July, the "Sant Pollín" festival was held in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona). It's
been 9 years since this festival has been celebrated, inspired by the running of the Bulls of San Fermín in Pamplona but with the advantage that no
animal is mistreated nor is any person at risk in the running.
Del 6 al 9 de Julio se ha celebrado la fiesta de "Sant Pollín" en El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona). Ya son 9 años que se lleva celebrando esta fiesta, inspirada en los encierros de San Fermín de Pamplona pero con la ventaja de que ningún animal es maltratado ni ninguna persona corre riesgo alguno en los encierros.
In this event the "Pollo" (chicken) is the great protagonist. This figure is a huge chicken that belongs to the Correfocs dels diables del Prat and is often very frightening to children. Nine
years ago, the popular culture organization decided that it was time
for the children to enjoy the "Pollo" and in this way was born this
fun festival that is suitable for all audiences.
As in the San Fermín event, there is proclamation and chupinazo that opens the great event and releasing the "Pollo", who runs several streets of historical center of El Prat. I was only able to attend the running of the 7th of July because I had to work the day before.

En esta fiesta el "Pollo" es el gran protagonista. Esta figura es un enorme pollo que pertenece al Correfocs dels diables del Prat y que suele dar mucho miedo a los niños. Hace nueve años la entidad de cultura popular decidió que ya era hora de que los niños también pudiesen disfrutar del "Pollo" y de esta manera nació esta divertida fiesta apta para todos los públicos.
Al igual que en la fiesta de San Fermín, hay pregón y chupinazo que da apertura a la gran fiesta y soltando al "Pollo" para el encierro que recorre varias calles del casco antiguo de El Prat. Yo solamente pude asistir al encierro del día 7 de Julio ya que el día anterior tuve que trabajar.
Al igual que en la fiesta de San Fermín, hay pregón y chupinazo que da apertura a la gran fiesta y soltando al "Pollo" para el encierro que recorre varias calles del casco antiguo de El Prat. Yo solamente pude asistir al encierro del día 7 de Julio ya que el día anterior tuve que trabajar.
The party doesn't forget any detail as many people dress the same as in the original San Fermin. Days before, you can buy in some shops of the town red scarfs and white T-shirts with logos of Sant Pollín. Even the streets of the bull running are renamed in Basque.
La fiesta no se olvida de ningún detalle ya que mucha gente se viste igual que en el San Fermín original. Días antes se pueden comprar en algunas tiendas de la ciudad pañuelos rojos y camisetas blancas con logotipos de Sant Pollín. Incluso las calles del encierro son renombradas en euskera.
You neither have
to worry if the "Pollo" bites someone because a great medical team is
aware of helping the wounded, who are many.
Tampoco hay que preocuparse si el "Pollo" pica a alguien ya que un gran equipo médico está al tanto de auxiliar a los heridos, que son muchos.
The end of the running ends in the park Fondo d'en Peixo, where a foam party is held. There
was also an inflatable castle for children and you could enjoy the
gastronomy as it's also celebrated the "Route of Pinxo of Sant Pollín".
El fin del recorrido termina en el parque Fondo d'en Peixo, donde se celebra una fiesta de espuma. También había un castillo inflable para los niños y podías disfrutar de la gastronomía ya que también se celebra la "Ruta del Pinxo de Sant Pollín".
At night the Diables del Prat made a show of about an hour of which I couldn't take photos because I was far away. I would have only got photos of nonsense sparks. And the next day the party was closed singing "Pobre de mí" (Poor of me) version "Sant Pollín", to which I didn't attend either. For next year I'll go if I'm able.
The bull running was fun and although I couldn't take photos, you could also find wheelbarrows of bulls and bulls-chicks in the running trying to catch the runners. I think this festival is much healthier than the original one because everyone has a good time without having to mistreat any animal. So if next year you're in Barcelona and want to enjoy this party, don't forget to write down in your agenda the date of the weekend of the 7th July, 2018.

Por la noche los Diables del Prat hicieron un espectáculo de aproximadamente una hora de duración del que no pude hacer fotos al estar algo lejos. Solo habría conseguido fotos de chispas sin sentido. Y el día siguiente se cerró la fiesta cantando el "Pobre de mí" versión "Sant Pollín", al que tampoco asistí. Ya para el próximo año.
El encierro fue divertido y aunque no pude hacer fotos, también te podías encontrar con carretillas de toros y toro-pollos en el encierro intentando coger a los corredores. Esta fiesta me parece mucho más sana que la original ya que todo el mundo se lo pasa bien sin necesidad de maltratar a ningún animal. Así que si el próximo año queréis disfrutar de esta fiesta en directo, no olvidéis apuntar la fecha del fin de semana del 7 de Julio de 2018.
