Sant Jordi 2019

On the 23rd April was the World Bood Day, although in Catalonia we celebrated it as Sant Jordi, our patron. Here is tradition to give a rose or a book and people often go for a walk in the center of Barcelona as it's full of book stands of books and roses in almost any corner and even your favorite writer may be signing books.

Although my beloved doggy passed away on the 6th April, life goes on and therefore, my mother and I decided to go for a walk in the morning in my town.

El 23 de abril fue el día del libro, aunque en Cataluña lo celebramos como Sant Jordi, nuestro patrón. Aquí es tradición regalar una rosa o un libro y la gente suele salir a pasear por el centro de Barcelona ya que está lleno de puestos de libros y rosas en casi cualquier esquina e incluso puede que tu escritor favorito esté firmando libros.

Aunque mi queridísimo perrito falleció el 6 de abril, la vida sigue y por lo tanto, mi madre y yo decidimos salir a pasear por la mañana en mi ciudad.

Barcelona - Sant Jordi 2018

On the 23rd April was the day of the book, although in Catalonia we celebrated it as Sant Jordi. Here is tradition to give as a gift a rose or a book and many people go for a walk in the center of Barcelona.

You can find books and roses stands in almost any corner, so I took the camera to carried some photos.

In Plaça Catalunya there was still the "Acampada per la República" ("Camping for the Republic"). I don't want to get involved in politics, everyone is free to think what they want, but I want to show the following photos because it was part of what could be seen that day in Barcelona.

El 23 de abril fue el día del libro, aunque en Cataluña lo celebramos como Sant Jordi. Aquí es tradición regalar una rosa o un libro y mucha gente sale a pasear por el centro de Barcelona.

Te puedes encontrar con puestos de libros y rosas en casi cualquier esquina, así que me llevé la cámara para tomar algunas fotografías.

En Plaça Catalunya aún estaba la "Acampada per la República". No quiero meterme en política, que cada uno piense lo que quiera, pero quiero mostrar las siguientes fotos ya que formó parte de lo que se podía ver ese día en Barcelona.

Yesterday was the day of the book, or Sant Jordi, as known in Catalonia. Here is tradition to give a rose or a book and is a big celebration. Strolling through the center of Barcelona can turn into an adventure because of the agglomeration of people who are in some streets and even though I hate the crowds, I like to walk around Barcelona that day and I spent the afternoon there.

You can find book stalls and roses stalls in almost any corner and being the World Book Day, come many writers to sign their books. Out of curiosity, we approached to the booth in which Mario Vaquerizo, a Spanish singer, writer and other professions, was signing his books in Plaza Catalunya in front of Corte Ingles.

Ayer fue el día de libro, o Sant Jordi, como se conoce en Cataluña. Aquí es tradición regalar una rosa o un libro y se celebra por todo lo alto. Pasear por el centro de Barcelona se puede convertir en toda una aventura por la aglomeración de gente que hay en algunas calles y a pesar de que odio las aglomeraciones, me gusta pasear por Barcelona ese día y pasé la tarde por allí.

Te puedes encontrar con puestos de libros y rosas en casi cualquier esquina y al ser el día internacional del libro, vienen muchos escritores a firmar sus libros. Por curiosidad, nos acercamos al puesto en el que Mario Vaquerizo estuvo firmando sus libros, en Plaza Catalunya frente al Corte Inglés.

Sant Jordi 2015 & Disney Store - Classic Doll "Frozen: Elsa"

On April 23rd was Sant Jordi (St. George). This day in Catalonia is similar to Valentine's day on which men give women a rose and women give men a book. As I have romanticism lost and don't have a boyfriend, I see it on the other hand, the day of the book and the festival around it in Barcelona, although is a working day.

Normally I don't go to Barcelona for Sant Jordi because of the crowd at the center of the city, but this year I wanted to go because I wanted to get a book signed by the author. The book is "Quiénes fueron realmente los vikingos" (Who the Vikings really were), by the historian Laia San José Beltrán (page in Spanish). So as I was free in the afternoon, I went to Barcelona with my mother.

As Laia Sant José would be in the stand signing books from 5 p.m. and we went to the city earlier to better leverage the afternoon, I suggested going to Disney Store because you know I've been looking for Elsa doll for a while. Finally the doll has been replenished! So I didn't hesitate and picked mine. If I wouldn't have suggested going to the store, I would have lost the chance to get it. El 23 de Abril fue Sant Jordi (San Jorge). En Cataluña es un día parecido al de San Valentín en el que los hombres regalan una rosa a las mujeres y ellas regalan un libro a los hombres. Como yo tengo el romanticismo perdido y no tengo pareja, lo miro por el otro lado, el día del libro y me quedo con la festividad que hay en torno a ello en Barcelona, aunque el día es laborable.

Normalmente no suelo ir a Barcelona en Sant Jordi por la aglomeración de gente que hay en el centro de la ciudad, pero este año quise ir porque me interesaba conseguir un libro firmado por su autora. Se trata del libro "Quiénes fueron realmente los vikingos", por la historiadora Laia San José Beltrán. Así que como tenía la tarde libre, me fui a Barcelona con mi madre.

Como Laia San José estaría en su stand firmando libros a partir de las 5 de la tarde y nosotras fuimos a la ciudad antes de esa hora para aprovechar mejor la tarde, sugerí ir a la tienda Disney Store porque llevo un tiempo buscando la muñeca de Elsa. ¡Por fin habían repuesto la muñeca! Así que no lo dudé y cogí la mía. Si no hubiese sugerido ir a la tienda, habría perdido la oportunidad de tenerla.
